- Liquid phase chemistry: solubility, colligative properties
- Reaction kinetics, chemical equilibrium
- Acids and bases, pH, buffer solutions
- Thermodynamics, entropy and Gibbs energy
- Electrochemisty, electrochemical cells, normal potentials and cell potentials, electrolysis
Learning outcomes:A student who has passed the course:
- Knows different kind of molecular interactions and can explain how intermolecular forces determine the state of matter
- Knows phases of matter and can interpret phase diagrams
- Knows the concept of solubility and factors affecting solubility
- Can explain how colligative properties affect melting and boiling point
- Knows how the rate of chemical reaction can be changed; can determine reaction order from experimental results
- Knows how chemical equilibrium can be changed; can determine equilibrium constants and equilibrium concentrations
- Knows acid-base reactions and related phenomena; can interpret acid-base titration curves
- Can represent the state of chemical system using thermodynamical functions
- Knows the principles of electrochemical cell; can represent it in language of chemistry
Prerequisites:High School chemistry and mathematics courses and Principles of Chemistry 1 (KEMP111) are strongly recommended

Assessment criteria

In guided course, grading is based on the sum of excercise and exam points.
In book exam, grading is based only on the exam points.

The course will be assessed using both grading methods and the better of these two is given as the course grade.
