Contents:This colloquium focuses on empirical music research. Ongoing research projects are discussed, and the colloquium also serves as a "group supervision" for those who are preparing theses on these topics or using these methods. The colloquium also tries to find and adopt new ways and means of collecting or analysing empirical data (e.g. net-based stuff such as Last FM and YouTube; music information retrieval etc.).
Learning outcomes:To advance empirical music research and use of empirical methodology in the department, and especially provide support for those preparing their theses.
Prerequisites:Colloquium is recommended for students working on their master's or bachelor's thesis, but everyone interested in research on this field is welcome, including graduate students and staff.
Modes of study:Meetings every three weeks. Ongoing studies, related literature and new developments in the field are presented and discussed.
Completion mode:Course credits are given based on attendance, active participation and presentations.
Schedule:Meetings every third Thursday at 3pm, starting on 22. January.
Literature:There's no specific literature, but the first chapter of this book sums up the aims of this colloquium. The book is available online via ebrary. Clarke, E. & Cook, N. (eds.) (2004). Empirical Musicology : Aims, Methods, Prospects. Oxford: Oxford University Press.
