Degree structure elements

• Supplementary studies (CEM), 0 op [Näytä]
  • Depending on the individual background, the student may be required to take some supplementary courses. The basic pre-requisite for advanced level studies in Corporate Environmental Management is the CEMA150 Business, Society and Environment course, which is arranged as part of the subject studies in Management and Leadership.
    International degree students, who have not completed an academic Finnish course previously, are required to take the following supplementary language course: XSU0005 Suomi 1.
    Finnish students should have completed written and speech communication in the Finnish language and Swedish (virkamiesruotsi) in their previous degree or they must complete them as supplementary language studies (see supplemantary studies). Students, who complete both Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in the School of Business and Economics, should have 25 ECTS language studies in total (15 + 10).
    
    Credits received from the supplementary studies cannot be included in the total 120 ECTS of the Master’s degree.

  • It''s possible to complete all the major courses (except Research Seminar, Master''s Thesis and optional advanced studies) during the first year in Master''s studies. All these courses are lectured in English.
    The extent of the major studies is 82-85 ECTS depending on the extent of the student’s minor studies, so that the total sum of ECTS credits of the Master’s Programme is 120 ECT.
  • ! Advanced studies in Corporate Environmental Management, 82 op
    • ! Compulsory major studies, 70 op
    • ! Optional major studies, 12 op
      • The extent of the optional major studies is 12-15 ECTS depending on the extent of the student’s minor studies, so that the total sum of ECTS credits of the Master’s Programme is 120 ECT.
        Optional studies may be chosen freely according to the personal research interests of the student. However, they should be listed in advance in the Personal Study Plan (PSP). The optional studies should be subject or advanced level courses in the School of Business and Economics, in other faculties or Universities (e.g. during exchange period abroad). Participation in conferences or summer schools related to CEM might be assigned a number of ECTS credits, although it has to be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
• ! Minor Studies, 25 op
  • Depending on the individual background, the compulsory minor is either Basic Business studies for the students who have not completed business studies previously, or Environmental Sciences for the students who have not completed environmental studies previously. The minor (min. 25 ECTS) can be chosen freely, if the student has completed both business studies and environmental studies previously.
  • Basic Business Studies, 28 op
  • Study Module in Environmental Sciences, 25 op
    • YMPA209 Climate and global change course will not be organised during the study year 2009-2010. The substitutive course (5 ECTS) will be announced later during this year.
• ! Language and Communication Studies / MSc (CEM), 10 op [Näytä]
  • Amount of language studies in the Master’s degree is 10 ECTS, which consists of three compulsory English courses. XENT001 should be completed during the first semester. XENX009 is integrated with CEMS260 course in the spring semester.
    Native English speakers should complete 10 ECTS of other language studies, including the Finnish course XSU0005 (see supplementary studies).
    Students, who complete both Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in the School of Business and Economics, should have 25 ECTS language studies in total (15 + 10).
