International degree students, who have not completed an academic Finnish course previously, are required to take XSU0005 Suomi 1.
Finnish students, who have not completed the statutory Finnish and/or Swedish courses in their previous degree, e.g. degrees completed abroad, are required to take the following supplementary language courses: Äidinkielen puheviestintä, Äidinkielen kirjoitusviestintä and Akademisk Svenska.

- Advanced studies 82-85 ECTS. Compulsory studies 71 ECTS. The extent of the optional major studies is 11-14 ECTS depending on the extent of the student''s minor studies, so that the total sum of ECTS credits of the Master''s Programme is 120 ECTS.

Optional major studies are not restricted to the courses above, but may be chosen according to the personal research interests of the student. However, they should be listed in advance in the Personal Study Plan (PSP). The optional studies should be subject or advanced level courses in the School of Business and Economics, in other faculties or Universities e.g. during exchange period abroad. Participation in conferences or summer schools related to CEM might be assigned a number of ECTS credits, although it has to be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.

! Minor Studies, 25 op

Depending on the individual background, the compulsory minor is either basic business studies (the study module of 28 ECTS) for the students who have not completed business studies previously, or environmental sciences for the students who have not completed environmental studies previously. The minor (min. 25 ECTS) can be chosen freely, if the student has completed both business studies and environmental studies previously.
Students, who have completed neither business studies nor environmental studies previously, will be required to choose one compulsory minor and supplementary courses from the other study module. All graduates in CEM should have basic knowledge both in environmental sciences and business studies. Supplementary studies in basic business studies or environmental studies will be negotiated with the Personal Study Plan supervisor.

The following changes to the JSBE curriculum for 2013-2016 will be effective starting on 1 September 2014:
1. In the case the student has not a sufficient environmental backround education in Environmental Sciences, the following two study units from the discipline of Environmental Science and Technology must be completed: YMPP123 Fundamentals of Environmental Science (5 ECTS) AND YMPA209 Climate Change and Global Warming (4 ECTS), altogether 9 ECTS. (Previous requirement was 25 ECTS: YMPP123 Fundamentals of Environmental Science 8 ECTS, YMPP111 Basics of Environmental and Energy Technologies 4 ECTS, YMPA209 Climate Change and Global Warming 4 ECTS, YMPA217 Energy and the Environment 4 ECTS and optional courses 5 ECTS)
2. In the major studies, a minimum of 21 ECTS of optional study units must be completed. (Previous requirement was 11-14 ECTS.)
3. Compared to the degree requirements of the curriculum 2013-2016 which was effective before 1 September 2014, there is a surplus of 10 ECTS. These credits will be completed as optional studies, preferably in Environmental Science and Technology.
