Living with Globalization is an interdisciplinary program that focuses in globalization as a many-sided process. Moreover, globalization should be also seen as multiscalar process: it emerges from activities and processes on many geographical scales that co-exist in complex ways. In other words, globalization is also taking place on sub-national (e.g. networked global cities) and national (e.g. partial denationalization of classes) scales. On sub-national and national scale this program concentrates in Finland, but also other localities and countries will be discussed.
Globalization has triggered, or at least complicated, many kinds of political and moral challenges, for instance, in terms of equality, sustainability, and wellbeing. In order to explore, understand and explain these challenges concretely there is often need to rethink the conceptual and methodological starting points of social sciences. Thus, challenges people (including researchers and students) are currently facing in their daily lives around the globe, and in different cultural, political, and economic conditions, are simultaneously challenges for contemporary social sciences and philosophy.
This interdisciplinary program is possible to complete during one semester, but the whole academic year provides more time to reflect own learning, have discussions with other students and teachers, and offers more modules to choose from.
